Less Than 24 Hours to Go

In less than 24 hours, we’ll be boarding a plane to Korea—and right now our house looks exactly like you’d expect. Bags are open, carry-ons are being weighed (over and over), and we’re doing our very best to stay under the 50-pound limit. We’ll be gone for 30 days, which somehow feels both like a long time and no time at all.

The real reason for this adventure is family. We’re heading to Korea to spend time with Pep, our grandson, Maddie, our granddaughter, and Henry, our son. We can’t wait to see how much they’ve grown, what they’ve learned, and the people they’ve become while living abroad. They’re excited to show us their favorite places, the culture they love, and the rhythms of their daily life in Korea—and we’re so ready to experience it all through their eyes.

Leaving home in the middle of winter always brings a mix of excitement and nerves, but we’re incredibly grateful. Our neighbors are stopping by, our pets are well cared for, and Lou and Millie are in very good hands. Knowing that makes it easier to step out the door.

This trip is also special for another reason—it’s Holly and my first international trip together since retiring from education. Retirement has opened up space for new adventures, and of course, Fika Spice is coming along for the ride. We’re excited to learn more about fika in Korea and to share the spirit of it wherever we go.

Yes… we may have packed a few bottles of Fika Spice and Maple Sugar Fika Spice to give away as gifts. Okay—maybe more than a few. We’re calling it “you get what you get,” and we’re hoping to have some fun with it along the way.

And Pep? Let’s just say he’s not going to be short on toys. We may have gone a little overboard. (Grandparents’ privilege.)

We’ll be blogging as often as we can and sharing along the way on social media, so come travel with us.
